The curved bill and distinctive flat spatula shape at the tip is one of the most challenging forms in bird anatomy, and getting it right demanded every bit of my classical training at the New York Academy of Art.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis original is part of my Oh, to Fly! collection, which explores the grand waterbirds whose presence commands attention.
