Way back in May 2018, The Boston Globe's Good Life section featured my Crimson Topaz Hummingbird print in their Mother’s Day gift guide (see below). It was such a delight to see my work highlighted, especially this particular piece—a celebration of one of nature’s tiniest, most vibrant wonders.
Looking back, that moment feels like a snapshot of an earlier chapter in my artistic journey. So much has unfolded since then—new pieces, new inspirations, and an even deeper connection to the natural world that continues to shape my work.
Bird Art Watercolors: Little Moments of Wonder
The natural world has a way of surprising us, often in the quietest ways. Like spotting a nuthatch spiraling down a tree trunk or catching a heron casting its reflection over still water. These are the kinds of moments that find their way into my watercolors—tiny stories told through color and brushstroke.
One painting might capture the airy, sunlit hues of a chickadee perched among spring blooms. Another might bring to life the bold drama of a coastal egret set against deep twilight blues. Each piece is like a window into a specific place and time, inspired by the fleeting beauty of the world just beyond our doors.
What’s New in the Studio
Since that Boston Globe feature, my work has expanded into new directions, often inspired by life near the coast. Shorebirds, tidal rhythms, and the interplay of light and water have made their way into my collection, alongside my beloved woodland birds.
I’m always working on something new—pieces that tell their own quiet stories. Keep up with my Latest Collection of nature-inspired art to see what's inspired me lately. Enjoy the outdoors!
Warmly,
Holly
