This goldfinch watercolor print captures pure sunshine in bird form. American goldfinches are one of the latest-nesting songbirds in North America — they wait for thistles and sunflowers to seed before raising their young, which means their bright yellow breeding plumage peaks in midsummer when everything else is already fading. Even their timing is optimistic.
I paint goldfinches freehand with Kissho Gansai mineral pigments on archival cotton rag paper. The brilliant yellow requires careful pigment layering — too heavy and it goes flat, too light and it loses the bird’s electric presence. Natural Gansai minerals hold the warmth without sacrificing luminosity. Whether the painting shows a single goldfinch on a stem or a pair in conversation, each composition catches the buoyant energy that makes these birds impossible to ignore. Every giclée is printed in my Pawtucket studio, color-matched to the original.

Materials: Prints of my original, handmade pieces are made using only archival inks on heavyweight archival rag paper by Moab designed to last a lifetime. Learn more about my materials and process.
Framing: All work is elegantly framed in pristine white handmade wooden frames. The frames are 1.5" deep and handcrafted from solid wood by my favorite local framer.
A Note About Your Print's Edges: Each print arrives with a thin 1/8" white border all around—this bit of breathing space ensures that more of the image remains visible when framed, as standard framing techniques can obscure the edges.
If you prefer your image printed edge-to-edge without this margin, simply add a note with your order requesting "full-frame printing" and I'll happily accommodate.
