Eastern Meadowlark, Queen Anne's Lace ~ "Harmony Preserved" ~ "Songbirds & Friends" ~ Giclée Print
From the Collection Songbirds & Friends
There is a sound the open fields used to be full of -- the clear, flute-like whistle of an Eastern Meadowlark, perched on a fence post with its bright yellow breast and that bold black V. You hear it less and less now as grasslands disappear, which is part of why I wanted to paint one: to keep that voice, that exact piece of a summer meadow, from slipping away.
I gave him Queen Anne's Lace, the white lace umbels that nod through every roadside field in July. Together they are the whole grassland in miniature -- the bird that sings it and the flower that fills it. I painted them wet-on-wet, in layers, with no drawing underneath, working to keep the meadowlark's yellow as warm and alive as it sounds.

Printed from original watercolors in Holly's Pawtucket, Rhode Island studio.
Materials: Prints of my original, handmade pieces are made using only archival inks on heavyweight archival rag paper by Moab designed to last a lifetime. Learn more about my materials and process.
Framing: All work is elegantly framed in pristine white handmade wooden frames. The frames are 1.5" deep and handcrafted from solid wood by my favorite local framer.
A Note About Your Print's Edges: Each print arrives with a thin 1/8" white border all around—this bit of breathing space ensures that more of the image remains visible when framed, as standard framing techniques can obscure the edges.
If you prefer your image printed edge-to-edge without this margin, simply add a note with your order requesting "full-frame printing" and I'll happily accommodate.
My promise is to deliver your art exactly as you envision it in your space.
