The Pileated Woodpecker is a bird of the deep woods -- nearly crow-sized, with that flaming red crest, hammering at a dead trunk in the shade where the light barely reaches. You usually hear the drumming first, echoing through the trees, and then you find him working in the half-dark. There is real beauty in that hidden corner of the forest, and that is what I wanted this piece to hold.
I set him against jewelweed, the orange touch-me-not that thrives in damp, shadowed ground -- a small bright spark in a dim place. The contrast is the whole painting: the boldest bird in the woods and the quiet shade he calls home. I worked it wet-on-wet, in layers, letting the darks stay soft and deep so the red of the crest and the orange of the blooms carry the light.

Materials: Prints of my original, handmade pieces are made using only archival inks on heavyweight archival rag paper by Moab designed to last a lifetime. Learn more about my materials and process.
Framing: All work is elegantly framed in pristine white handmade wooden frames. The frames are 1.5" deep and handcrafted from solid wood by my favorite local framer.
A Note About Your Print's Edges: Each print arrives with a thin 1/8" white border all around—this bit of breathing space ensures that more of the image remains visible when framed, as standard framing techniques can obscure the edges.
If you prefer your image printed edge-to-edge without this margin, simply add a note with your order requesting "full-frame printing" and I'll happily accommodate.

Packaging: Prints 18x24” and larger are rolled and will arrive in sturdy mailing tubes. Smaller prints are shipped flat.
Shipping: Prints up to and including 40x40 ship FREE to the continental U.S. For larger works, please email us with your zip code for a quote.
Schedule: Please allow 1-2 weeks for processing and shipping. Larger orders may require additional time. If your order is time-sensitive, please leave us a note during checkout, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
International: Please contact us directly before placing your order for international shipping. Provide the items you're interested in and your shipping address so we can estimate shipping costs and any constraints.
Insurance: We provide complimentary shipping insurance for all orders. In the event that your item arrives damaged, please document it with pictures and notify us immediately so we can initiate a claim on your behalf.
