Eastern Bluebirds — Merry Is The Birds Life
From the Collection Songbirds & Friends
This bluebird art print captures one of the most beloved songbirds in North America. Eastern bluebirds carry a blue so vivid it looks painted on — and for someone who paints with handmade mineral pigments, I can tell you it’s one of the most satisfying colors to chase. Their warm russet breast and white belly complete a palette that feels like a clear October morning. These birds went into serious decline decades ago, and their comeback through volunteer nest box programs makes them a genuine symbol of resilience and community effort.
I paint eastern bluebirds freehand with Kissho Gansai pigments on archival cotton rag paper. The blue requires confident, undiluted strokes — overworking watercolor kills the vibrancy, so the alla prima (completed in a single session) technique is essential. Whether the painting shows an adult in full breeding plumage or a fledgling just learning to perch, each captures the optimism that makes bluebirds universal favorites. Every giclée is printed in my Pawtucket studio, color-matched to the original.
Bluebird prints bring genuine happiness to living rooms, bedrooms, and children’s spaces.

Materials: Prints of my original, handmade pieces are made using only archival inks on heavyweight archival rag paper by Moab designed to last a lifetime. Learn more about my materials and process.
Framing: All work is elegantly framed in pristine white handmade wooden frames. The frames are 1.5" deep and handcrafted from solid wood by my favorite local framer.
A Note About Your Print's Edges: Each print arrives with a thin 1/8" white border all around—this bit of breathing space ensures that more of the image remains visible when framed, as standard framing techniques can obscure the edges.
If you prefer your image printed edge-to-edge without this margin, simply add a note with your order requesting "full-frame printing" and I'll happily accommodate.
My promise is to deliver your art exactly as you envision it in your space.
