English Robin VI ~ "Songbirds & Friends" ~ Watercolor
From the Collection Songbirds & Friends
This english robin watercolor painting captures the bird that owns every British garden. The European robin — rounder, smaller, and more confiding than its American namesake — is one of the most beloved birds in the world. That orange-red breast, the oversized dark eye, the habit of following gardeners for upturned worms. This painting catches the robin's characteristic tilt of the head, that look of friendly assessment.
I worked freehand on archival cotton rag paper with Kissho Gansai pigments from Kyoto. The warm orange breast was built through wet-on-wet mineral pigment washes, glowing against the olive-brown back and pale belly. The soft, rounded body shape required gentle brushwork — nothing angular or harsh. European robins are confiding birds — they follow gardeners, perch on spade handles, and sing from the lowest branches, maintaining a relationship with humans that stretches back centuries in British culture. Their orange breast is technically a display feature used in territorial disputes, but to most people it's simply the friendliest, most recognizable detail in the bird world.
A timeless, universally beloved subject. Part of my Songbirds & Friends collection. The English robin is one of the most recognized birds in the world, and this painting honors that familiarity with genuine craftsmanship. One of a kind. Free shipping, complimentary insurance, and certificate of authenticity included.
